The Flemish-Dutch Culturehouse De Brakke Ground will organize a month of play-related cultural events, starting April 16. Part of this event is the two day mini-festival Hack/Play on meaningful play. The second night I will be part of a rountable discussion on the limitations of game design together with the developers of This War of Mine. The event is called “New Gamegrounds: The Tyranny of the Creator” and promises two nights of great discussion.
Here’s a blurb from the organizers: “Hack / Play, a month in which we re-write the rules. For a whole month, we will provide a space in which to push at boundaries of the rues of play. We will explore our own space and that of the other. How can we take control by turning play conventions and accepted patterns inside out? We will heap together ‘playing a role’ and everyday reality in activities involving thought and play. Play along in the exhibition, at the market, in the theatre, on the gaming board, in the city and in your head.”
