NRC column on the state of the game industry

The coming weeks hundreds, if not thousands of Dutch students will start their new studies focused on game design, programming, or related fields such as multimedia design. Many of them seem to “follow their dream” to develop real games (for actual money!). That said, there still are some structural issues concerning employment in today’s game industry. In this NRC column I draw on two recent studies surveying the “state of the industry”. There’s Gamasutra’s 2014 Salary Survey and IGDA’s Developer Satisfaction Survey. What emerges from both surveys is a picture of an industry that is clearly exhibiting growing pains.

Veel scholieren beschouwen werken in de game-industrie nog steeds als een droombaan. Wat voor toekomst gaan zij tegemoet?
